New JSNA Bitesize on unemployment to April 2020
A new JSNA Bitesize is now available showing the change in unemployment data for Oxfordshire between March 2020 and April 2020.
Between March 2020 and April 2020, the number of claimants of unemployment benefits in Oxfordshire increased from 6,655 to 12,240, an increase of 5,600 or 84%. This was above the increases across England (+66%) and the South East (+82%).
The current peak is well above that seen after the 2008 recession (9,635 in May 2009).
The number of claimants more than doubled in South Oxfordshire and West Oxfordshire districts. Oxford City remained the Oxfordshire district with the highest rate of claimants per population, now joined by Cherwell.
